RGB and CMYK Color Wheels

For our Activity #2, we had to digitally create two color wheels: One is an RGB Color Wheel and the other is a CMYK Color Wheel. We were given a color wheel template to create the two color wheels through Photoshop. I was not present in class when the activity was  discussed and given but the Word document with instructions on it was a big help in guiding me on what to do and how to do the activity.
Having some average knowledge in Photoshop helped me get through the activity. The instructions were pretty clear until I have to create the tins and shades of the CMYK Color Wheel. Starting with the color Red in CMYK, I was following the instructions religiously but when I moved to the Orange tint, I noticed that it had the same color as that of the red. I thought that maybe, I did a mistake in the process, so I re-did the wheel again. But same results. I then message my classmate, Micka to ask about to it right. She was kind enough to inform that there are some errors in the instruction that may have been overlooked. She then instructed me the correct codes or percentage pero color in the CMYK.

RGB VS. CMYK

The RGB color system is primarily composed of RED, GREEN and BLUE while the CMYK stands for its prime colors which are CYAN, MAGENTA, YELLOW and K for BLACK, as to not confuse it with Blue. Scanners, Digital cameras, Monitor Screens and projectors use the Red, Green, Blue (RGB) light to display color. On the other hand, printers print with Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black colors or ink. Digital cameras capture in RGB format for it displays more vibrant and illuminated colors. However, when printing photos, it is best to convert it to CMYK as to not be surprised on how your photo looks like when printed. Printers only read the CMYK color system, which is mostly toned down in color.

I have always disregard CMYK every time I use photoshop, but through this lesson and activity, I was able to appreciate more and learn better on its uses and differences. It's quite complicated having two color systems, I thought. Why can't one color system be applicable to all as to make life easier and avoid confusion? hehe. But then, I believe that everything is created in order and with purpose.

COLOR PYSCHOLOGY

It was an interesting activity last week when we were handed a sheet of paper with a color written on it. We were tasked to put as many descriptions, nouns and brands we can think under that color. I selected a paper with the color GREY on it. What a beautiful coincidence since it's my favorite color. In fact, if you would open my closet, you will find 70% GREY clothing. I love how neutral the color is and how it fits everyone. I also wrote on my paper that GREY symbolizes wisdom. We can confirm that with Wikipedia and Mac's color design, as well as the common belief that when you get a grey hair, that's because of the wisdom you gained.
Anyway, to present you other examples of colors and its impression or description, here's a list of photos I found in one of my favorite pages in Instagram, PicLab.

You may follow them on:

RED

Here's a photo of a lady in red taking a view on the Chicago's Sky Deck. The color really stood out among the sea of blues. It's quite interesting that the photo invokes adventure, excitement and danger which the color RED symbolizes.

YELLOW

The color yellow represents joy, relaxation, optimism and sunshine. This photo is a photo of an Airbnb in Thailand namely, Chai Lai Orchid, where you can not only live among elephants but also support women's rights. And I believe that the lady is wearing a yellow by no accident for it is such a happy and optimistic place to be.

GREEN
I think the color green is the easiest to describe. It basically invokes nature, environment, healing and renewal.  Like the photo of a waterfall in Kauai, one of the main islands of Hawaii. It brings a soothing effect. It is a no wonder why as a child, we were always advised that when our eyes get tired, just look at the greens. Also, when we do recollections and retreats, it is most effective when we do it with nature.

BLUE

Doesn't this photo of Maldives makes you want to go the beach pronto?  The color blue is mostly seen in waters and skies. It brings the feeling of tranquility, calm, peace and stability.

ORANGE

The busy streets of Paris brings so much warmth from the street and vehicle lights. The color orange does bring that feeling of warmth and energy.

BROWN

Brown is the color of the earth. It invokes feelings of outdoor and home. Just like this photo of the Sphinkx of Gaza.

VIOLET
Though there are various of colors and patterns found in this photo, you could not help but be drawn to the violet Moroccan Ceramic Mug. The color violet speaks of royalty, sophistication and elegance.

WHITE
This is a photo of Lake Baikal in Russia. It is mostly white that brings the essence of winter, ice, purity, cleanliness and simplicity.

PINK
This illuminated tunnel in Japan, featuring thousands of sakura-shaped bulbs sparkles brilliantly in the heavy rain. These stunning cherry blossoms are obviously pink that brings sense of love, innocence, romance, charm, delicateness and somehow femininity.

GOLD

This is a stunning photo of the interior view of the Süleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey. The dome which is colored gold is a representation of riches, extravagance, wealth and prosperity.

It's very interesting that each color represents a certain meaning and description to viewers. Different colors invoke different feelings. It affects our mood and how we see things. Colors are a form of communication for it signals different moods and messages and influences our feelings and actions. It is vital that we learn to use the colors accordingly so as to not mess up what it is intended to be. In the same way, just like the colors, we were all created here on earth for a purpose, for a meaning. We have to learn and discover that God-given purpose for our lives that we may live right.

Color Schemes

I have been doing basic graphics design for more than five years already. I started doing graphics for church using Powerpoint. For the first two or three projects, they approved of my works without revisions nor questions. But one project came that required me to do major revisions that Powerpoint has now powers to do so. So I self-learned Photoshop and some basic knowledge on designing and layouting, shoutout to Youtube tutorials!
Through these years, I have been designing based on my own preferences-- if this looks good, then it's a go; and sometimes, getting inspirations from good designs I saw in the internet. I had no regard to some major technicalities and even the art of colors.
This week in our Digital Publishing class under Sir Ced Zabala, we were re-introduced to the Color Wheel. It's as if we were back to our elementary Arts class; but this time understanding and making more sense of its function. We were taught about the 8 color schemes which I will now be discussing with you using some of the photos I took as examples.

MONOCHROMATIC

"Mono" means one, "chroma" means color. Monochromatic color schemes have only one color and its values. It uses variations in lightness and saturation of a single color.

My subject for the first photo is a good friend of mine, Jackie Ruth, she was crowned as Miss Zamboanga in the year 2015. Taken at the Zamboanga City Musuem, Jackie was wearing a Mascota created by Al-Shamer. The brown, tan and light orange colors of the mascota matched the bricks on the wall as well as the floor tiles.

ANALOGOUS

The analogous color scheme uses colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. One color is used as a dominant color while others are used to enrich the scheme.

Not all goodbyes are painful. Take for example this sun bidding goodbye to the horizon as it set which I took at the Ebenezer Beach (side note: Ebenezer Beach gives you the best sunset view). It creates a beautiful sky masterpiece that made you all the more appreciate our Creator. This sunset painted a beautiful analogous color scheme to the sky.

COMPLEMENTARY

The complementary color scheme is made of two colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel.

Taken at the Upper Pasonanca woods, Alyana wore red dress that complements the green leaves which made the red dress stood thus creating a powerful image.

WARM COLORS

Warm colors are based on yellows, oranges, browns, yellowish greens and warm reds. They are vivid and energetic, and tend to advance in space. They are colors found in fire and the sun.

This photo was taken at Maimoon Palace in Medan, Indonesia last September 2017. They have this store inside the palace where you can rent a sulatan costume to wear and take photos with it. I think I looked good here. 😉

COOL COLORS

Cool colors are based on blues, greens, pinks, purples, blue-greens, magentas, and true "blue-based" reds. Cool colors give an impression of calm, and create a soothing impression. They are the colors found in snow and ice and tend to recede in a composition.

The emergence of the stage lights and smoke was a perfect opportunity to take this wonderful photo of Jezreel, doing some final sound check and guitar tuning as we prepare for our church's Youth Service.

SPLIT-COMPLEMENTARY

One hue plus two others equally spaced from its complement.

Dom is another good friend of mine who strike a pose while resting from an exhausting swim at the Sta. Cruz Island. His rash guard was a stand out in the island that time as it had colors that complemented so well together.

DOUBLE-COMPLEMENTARY / TETRADIC

Two complementary color sets; the distance between selected complementary pairs will effect the overall contrast of the final composition.

Unashamed 2017 is an Asian Campus Conference under Every Nation Campus. This was night 2 of the conference where the Music Team lead us to a celebration song. These were huge balloons that descended from the General Ad seats on topmost down to the stage.

TRIAD

Three hues equally positioned on a color wheel.

"A friend to the whale and a friend to people" is what was written on this mural painting. Found in Silliman, this is one of the famous mural paintings in the campus that I had the chance to look up close.

Analyzing and being aware of the harmony of colors through color schemes is a great help and boost in improving photos, paintings and graphic designs. This is something not really new to us, as we have learned this in our younger years but a rather a refresher. And I'm looking forward to more learning and re-learning with regards to Digital Publishing.

24ever!

Today I woke up knowing it's my birthday but really don't feel like it. My system hasn't really digested that today is supposed to be something special... to the point that I got confused why is everyone greeting me a Happy Birthday. But there's one thing I am sure of, throughout the 24 years of my existence, through ups and downs, through good times and bad times.. never did once God has forsaken me. Here's to 24 years of God's goodness and faithfulness and 24 more years to forever! TO GOD BE THE GLORY! ‪#‎HappyBirthdayToMe‬

Jesus.

Through the many shifts and changes that happened the past year, one thing remained-- JESUS! This New Year, the Christ who died and risen up from the grave is the same Christ who can take your dead hopes and dreams that you've longed forgotten and He can breathe life into them again. The Christ who walked on water is the same Christ who will walk with you through every valley and dessert. The Christ who turned water into wine is the same Christ who can work wonders and miracles into your seemingly impossible situations. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
~Praying for a Christ-Centered 2016 to you and your family!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Keep the Faith!

Blessed Still.

While I Lay in the comfort of my bed tonight, I think about the community we visited earlier where they had their houses built on water. In a seemingly frustrating situation, I wonder how and where they draw their hope from, what kind of strength they need to face each day and end every night with no assurance that things will get better tomorrow. And I look at my situation and I know that I am blessed still. But that doesn't make them blessed any less because one thing I am sure of, God loves and cares for His children the same and that blessings come in different forms, we just have to look on a different perspective.

A Season to Let Go

It's been almost one year now since I last posted on this blog. I'm not sure if I know how to write pa.haha!

I don't know what to write. Really! But I want to.. just hoping that through this I can ease the pain I feel inside. I don't even know how to construct every words and sentences that would let you and me understand how I feel and why do I feel what I feel.

I'm still in this season of my life where I'm trying to restore the relationship that was lost and broken to the point that I overdid myself by forcing things to happen, (not knowing that NOT everything is under my control), which resulted to even worse situations.

Uncertain on whether the friendship once enjoyed had changed due to the betrayal of a fast-phased time or was it because of certain emotional responses I should not have brought to existence for-- or was I responding over-dramatically because I cannot accept the harsh reality that people do change and need to change to somebody you don't even know anymore.. or was it me that changed?
TOUGH QUESTIONS with vague answers.

All I ever wanted was to be valued by whom I valued. To be invested a time for me.
Is it that hard? or it is! You cannot value someone you do not love. There is no value without love.
So was there love at the first place? I've learned that I cannot make someone love me. All I can do is be someone who can be loved, the rest is up to them. I've learned that no matter how much I care, some people just don't care back.. and i have to learn that it's not the end of the world.

It's painful losing yourself in the process of valuing someone too much and forgetting that you are special too.. that you deserve to be valued and cared too.

God has been telling me to STOP! -- "stop wrestling with me. I want to give new and best things for you but how can I, if you've been holding on to some things that I asked you to let go. I can only fill an empty hand."

I know I'm almost there! I'm almost closing this long and overly extended season of my life and yet frightened to step on to a foreign land.. but I have to! I have to let go of the things that I was used to, to walk away from anything (may it be unnecessary emotions, responses, wrong mindset, wrong people) that no longer serves me, grows me or makes me happy and embrace the new things God has been wanting to give me.

God has been teaching me to WAIT!-- "wait upon me and as you wait.. draw your strength from me. Everything is beautiful in my own right time. Everything will unfold in its perfect timing. Just be patient. Restoration may delay but it will surely come"

Time has its own way of healing if I'd be just more patient. Take Heart! Take Faith! Be assured of the things I hope for and certain of the things I do not see. God makes all things beautiful in His time.

God has been calling me to DELIGHT!-- "Delight yourself in ME, and I'll give you your heart's desire. I can satisfy your hunger and thirst. Find your security in me"

Whether in lack or gain, delight yourself in the Lord. Whether in sunny weathers or stormy nights, delight in the Lord. Only to Him should we build our security. Material possessions fail and people will fail you but God will stand faithful amidst all. When bad things happen and beyond understanding, delight in the Lord.. and when we delight, we worship-- because when we worship the Lord and magnify Him for who He is we realize that our God is bigger than all our troubles combined.

I thank You GOD for your never-fading faithfulness in my life. Despite the times that I find it hard to worship you because of the hurt and pain, you understand and you bring healing. That whatever season in my life I go through, you see me still with value and the same love from the beginning. You never change.

It has been a tough season and I hope and pray that I will come off tougher.
Let me end with the encouraging faith and devotion of Habakkuk:

Habakkuk 3:17-18

New International Version (NIV)

17 Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

HAVE A FRUITFUL SEASON OF YOUR LIFE! GOD BLESS YOU! :)
